Robert L. Donahue

Robert L. "Bob" Donahue, 93, of Marengo, formerly of Belvidere and Hoffman Estates. The "Punster" passed away April 7, 2018 at Valley-Hi nursing home Woodstock, IL. Bob was born on January 11, 1925 to Harry and Marie (nee Boll) Donahue in Chicago, where he grew up and attended St. Thomas Aquinas Grade School and St. Philip High School. After graduating from DePaul University, Bob accepted employment at Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. as a Fire Protection Engineer, testing for Public Safety, until his retirement in 1990. It was at UL where he met the love of his life, Alice C. (nee Shell). They were married October 8, 1949 and enjoyed 56 years of wedded bliss until her passing on January 22, 2006. He was WWII US Army Veteran. An avid Chicago Cub and Bear fan, attending many seasonal games. On Friday Nights he could be found in either at the Bowling Alley or the Golf Course. In addition to being the oldest bowler in the UL league once attaining a seasonal average of 188, he also played on the UL's Golf League, both of which he enjoyed well into his 80's! He was a member of UL's Live Wires and 25 Year Club, and thoroughly enjoyed their annual get- togethers! Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Marengo, IL and participated in the Young at Hearts activities. Bob enjoyed holidays and getting together with family and friends at home or his favorite restaurants. He is survived by his children, Carol (Art) Wisz, Rick (Kathy) Donahue, Barb Horne (Steve Moak) and Lynda (Chris) Coleman. His sisters, Rita Murphy and Dorothy (Ray) Seranko. 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was the Best Dad and leaves a big hole in all our hearts. We all will miss him. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, April 16, 2018 at James A. O'Connor Funeral Home 11603 East Main St. Huntley, IL 60142 and on Tuesday April 17, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Marengo, IL 60152 from 9:00 am until the mass at 10:00 am. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Memory Gardens Cemetery Arlington Heights, IL Memorials to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231 or Sacred Heart Church.
