Vernon L. Wisbar

Vernon L. Wisbar, 86, of Hampshire, formerly of Elgin, passed away Monday, March 4, 2019, at White Oaks of Heritage Woods of Huntley. He was born May 18, 1932, in Elgin the son of Vernon and Ada (Guptail) Wisbar. Vernon was a graduate of Elgin High School. He then served in the Korean War on the U.S.S. John R. Pierce, U.S.S. English, and the U.S.S. Grand Canyon and was honorably discharged in 1959. Vernon returned to the Elgin area and married Shirley Felgenhauer in June of 1957. He worked for the city of Elgin for many years retiring in 1992. After Shirley’s death, he married Alta Thelander in Sept. 1999 and they made their home in Elgin. Vernon loved to travel, go fishing, dining out, and build model boats and airplanes. He was dedicated to his family and siblings and will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife, Alta; children, Pam (Mark) Drendel of Hampshire, and Jeff (Karen) Wisbar of Elgin; grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Burdette, Michael (Rebecca) Drendel, Mathew Drendel, Kristina Drendel, Aly Wisbar, and Andrew Wisbar; great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Bryant, and Brantley; step-children, Debra (Larry) Cooper of Marengo, Connie Thelander of Elgin, Stephen Schrader of Gulf Shores, AL, Michael (Denise) Thelander of Elburn; step-grandchildren, Stephen (Bruce) Schrader, Gary (Sarah) Schrader, Becky (Doug) Whitaker, Bradley (Allie) Teliszczak, Curtis Kruschel, Jordan Thelander; step-great-grandchildren, Jonah, Carl, Tyler, Josh, MacKenzie, Andrew, and Leighton; sister, Gloria Wisbar. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley on Nov. 2, 1991; brother, George Wisbar; and step-daughter, Mindy Schrader. Services will be private.
