Carl William "Bill" Leggee

Carl William "Bill" Leggee, a beloved teacher, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on June 21, 2023. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his kindness, compassion, dedication to education, love for music, and adventurous spirit. He was born on June 24, 1930, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Carl and Nellie Leggee. Bill completed his undergraduate studies at Olivet Nazarene University in music education. Driven by his desire to deepen his musical expertise, Bill pursued graduate studies at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. On August 23, 1952, Bill married his late wife, Katherine, in Chicago, embarking on a journey of love and companionship that lasted for decades. Bill was an adored figure in the community. His career in education spanned over four decades in Huntley, where he shared his knowledge and love for English and music with generations of students. Bill had an extraordinary ability to inspire and motivate his students, fostering a deep appreciation for literature and the arts. His classrooms were filled with lively discussions, creativity, and a joy for learning. Bill was an adventurer at heart, with a wanderlust that led him on spontaneous road trips without a specific destination in mind. Exploring new places brought him great joy. One of his favorite annual traditions was a family trip to Palm Springs, California. Surrounded by the beauty of the desert, Bill relished the time he spent watching the golf tournament with his loved ones. His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren. He was a constant presence at every dance recital, basketball game, golf meet, and musical performance they participated in. His loyal support filled their hearts with love and encouragement. Deeply involved in his community, Bill played an integral role in the Prairie Singers of Del Webb. For many years, he lent his voice to the group's harmonies, eventually assuming the role of director. His dedication and musical talent contributed to the group's success and created cherished memories for all involved. Bill's social nature made him a dear friend to many. He could often be found engaging in card games, competing in Wii bowling matches, or chatting with friends over breakfast at Papa G's. His warm presence, rich stories, and infectious laughter brightened the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. Bill leaves behind a cherished legacy as an admired educator, musician, mentor, and adventurer. He will be deeply missed by his son, Randy (Gail) Leggee; grandchildren, Christopher (fiancé, Marina Payne) Leggee, Rachel (James) Brouder, and Emily (Tom) Barrett; great-granddaughter, Greta Brouder, great-grandson Barrett on the way, and countless friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts. An open house celebration of Bill's life will be held on Wednesday, July 5, in the Drendel Ballroom at Del Webb Sun City in Huntley from 3:00-6:00 pm. The family invites all who knew and loved him to join them in honoring his memory and sharing stories of his remarkable life. The funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to First Church Crystal Lake in Bill Leggee's name for a music scholarship, supporting aspiring musicians in their educational pursuits. In honoring Bill's memory, let us remember the joy he found in life's simple pleasures, his unconditional love for his family, and his enduring spirit of adventure. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire all those who were fortunate to have known him.
