Carolyn Sue Schachtner

Carolyn Sue McCoy Schachtner, 87, of Huntley, passed into the Lord’s arms on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington following a tough battle with cancer. She was born on November 1, 1934, to Edna and William McCoy in Vincennes, Indiana. Her family later moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she attended grammar school. She was a pioneer of her time, completing her Undergraduate Degree at Northern Illinois University in Elementary Education and later her graduate degree in Special Education. Carolyn was a teacher in the Huntley, McHenry and Crystal Lake School Districts. She and Bob built their first home on 11215 Grove Street in Huntley in 1960, next to Bob’s Mother and Father, Louis and Anna Schachtner, and raised all four of their children there. She loved all the children she taught during her career as a teacher. She loved to play golf, bridge, and sew. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntley, President of King’s Gate Park Community Association in Nokomis, Florida, President of Delta Zeta sorority at NIU, a volunteer at Easter Seal in Elgin, a member of Pinecrest Country Club in Huntley, a member of Woodstock Squares square-dance club and a member of the Tap Dance team in the Dell Web community. She was the proud mother of four children, Steven Robert Schachtner (Melinda), Susan Dailey (Lin), Luanne Kuna (Dan) and David Schachtner (Laurie). She had 10 beautiful grandchildren, Brad Dailey, Matt Dailey, Dustin Schachtner, Alex Schachtner, Sam Schachtner, Vince Viayra (mother, Melinda), Randy Malm, Drake Schachtner (Hanna), Christopher Kuna (Mary), and Jessica Kuna (Ken-Ichi). She had 3 precious great-grandchildren, Iris Dailey, Jasmine Dailey, and Scarlett Schachtner. She was preceded by her beloved husband, Robert Louis Schachtner; her brother, William Russell McCoy; her mother, Edna Pauline McCoy; Aunt Helen Burke; and father, William Edward McCoy. She will be missed by all the family and friends, whose lives she touched and will forever be in our hearts. Mass will be celebrated at 10 am, Monday, May 23, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Rd. in Huntley. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Huntley. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 pm, Sunday, May 22, at the James A. O’Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E.
