Gail Ann McDonald

Gail A McDonald, born March 29, 1969 to Nina Pilon and Robert McDonald, passed away unexpectedly on July 6 in Huntley, IL with her daughter's family. Her heart was so full of love it couldn't keep up anymore. Gail grew up in Crystal Lake and attended Crystal Lake South High School. She may not have had the best taste in men, but she was the absolute best mom, sister, Auntie G, and Gigi. Her ability to be sassy and sarcastic was only outdone by her tendency to take in anyone and everyone and make them part of the family - taking better care of everyone else than herself. Measuring your wealth in that of love, friends, and support - Gail was rich in many ways that didn't involve finances. She was the first to lend a helping hand, a (usually) constructive bit of criticism, and a shocking amount of 'hey let's get this s**t done' attitude. Gail was beloved in her many career exploits from years at Coleman's Restaurants, Washington St Station, The Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce, and more recently The Huntley Dairy Mart and TowerPoint RV Resort - where she AGAIN found more family. Her life's greatest achievements live on in her children and grandchildren: "the best and cutest and smartest amazing (grand)kids ever" and her ability to somehow manage to live cheaply on a beach in flip flops with her Dr. Pepper and Marlboro Lights. She taught us all how to eke out and discover our own pockets of happiness even in trying times. Gail was known to be generous with everything she had as well as sharp tongued to those who weren't. Gail was the backbone that the family didn't know it had, and the glue that held our messy complicated ridiculously silly group together. Her flip flops may never be filled, but I know our hearts (and cups) will never be empty. To the best circus master of the Eternal Clusterfluff - thanks Mom, you're the best. Gail, G, Gigi, Snail, Auntie Gail, bestest-friend-in-the-world will be always remembered and loved by her children, Jamie/Rose (Eric) Steere and Lee McDonald; sister Brenda (Kevin) Kamerer; brother Todd (Julia) McDonald; nieces, Kyra Brim, Kelsey and Kortney Zurek; granddaughters, Luisa, Jade, and Kindan Steere; extended nieces/nephews Hailey Loranca, Jace Younge, Delilah Brown, and Nina Grace Kuwamoto; and her many adopted sisters, chosen family, and extended friend circle - as well as her granddog Mr Barley. Gail was preceded in death by her father Robert McDonald; her step-father, Daniel “Lee” Pilon; her Mother Nina Pilon; her sisters, Megan McDonald and Maureen Zurek; and her nephew, Max McDonald.
