Philip E. Kennedy

Philip Eugene Kennedy, 93, of Huntley, Illinois, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family. Philip was born on May 18, 1933, in Renovo, Pennsylvania. He lived a long, full, and meaningful life centered on faith, family, friendship, and service to others. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce M. Kennedy, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and devotion. He was the proud father of five children: Christine (Steven) Wright, Kevin (Bonnie) Kennedy, Philip (Karen) Kennedy, Brian (Michele) Kennedy, Kathleen (Randy) Basick, He is also survived by (14) Grandchildren and (27) Great Grandchildren. Philip served in the Korean War in 1954. He was stationed in Bordeaux France, where he served as an Ammo Repair Specialist. For his service and dedication, he received the National Defense Service Medal. Philip’s career began as a gourmet chef, where his passion for food and hospitality laid the foundation for a successful career in management. Over the years, he served in leadership roles at hotels, country clubs, schools, and colleges, earning the respect of colleagues through his dedication, work ethic, and commitment to excellence. A man of deep faith, Philip generously gave his time to his church and community. At a previous parish, he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Sacristan, and Minister of Care, bringing comfort and compassion to those in need. After moving to Huntley, he continued his service by assisting Joyce in her Ministry of Care and became an active member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, always looking for ways to help others. Philip found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid reader and movie enthusiast, but one of his greatest joys was dining out with family and friends. Whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner, he delighted in trying every restaurant in town. True to form, he would always look at the soup and dessert selections before anything else—a tradition that brought smiles to those who knew him best. Philip will be remembered for his warm heart, generous spirit, quiet faith, and unwavering love for his family. His kindness, wisdom, sense of humor, and appreciation for life’s everyday moments touched all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and family that will continue through the many lives he influenced. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25th from 9:00 am until the 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Rd. in Huntley. Inurnment will follow in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
