Wayne D. Goers

Wayne D. Goers, 76, of Huntley, passed away Thursday, July 23rd, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and children, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL. He was born March 1st, 1950, in Elgin, Illinois. The son of Donald and Dorothy (Witt) Goers. He married Evelyn Sue Klemm on June 21st, 1969, in Huntley, IL. Wayne dedicated many years to working in the concrete industry until his retirement. He was a proud member of the Illinois State Horseshoe Pitching Association and had a lifelong passion for the sport, enjoying both the competition and the friendships it brought. Wayne loved traveling and making memories with those closest to him. He especially enjoyed RV camping, visiting casinos, and taking trips to Florida and Disney World with his beloved wife, Sue, and dear friends. He also cherished the time spent working alongside his son, John, cutting and trimming trees. Some of his happiest moments were traveling with his son, Donny, and his grandddaughters to horseshoe tournaments, combining his love of the game with the joy of being with family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sue; his children, John (Shelly) Goers and Donny Goers; his granddaughters, Anna (Kent) Thornquist, Kaylee Goers, Allison (Justin) Oine, and Eliza Goers; his great-granddaugther's, Lillian, Evelyn, and Grace Thornquist; his siblings, Kay Cook, LuAnn (Jack) Groh, Dennis (Debbie) Goers, and Penny Wilkerson; and his brother-in-law, Bob (Debbie) Klemm and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Dorothy; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and Dennis Engelking. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 28, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 Main St., Huntley, IL. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, July 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at James A. O'Connor Funeral Home in Huntley. Burial will follow immediately at Huntley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Wayne’s name may be directed to Preschool on the Square in Huntley, IL or Illinois State Horseshoe Pitching Assosciation.
